So, the day came that I had to write through loss once again. Sometimes we can find great comfort in our writing. It can be a way of escape in difficult times. Other times loss is a hindrance to our writing in that we are unable to focus. On August 20, 2022, my sister passed away from cancer. This would not be my first time writing through loss as I lost another sister on May 15, 2021. Loss can be difficult, but it can also catapult you to another level of creativity and focus. After this loss, I turned to my writing for comfort. I did not have anyone I felt like I could relate to; however, I did not close myself to those who wanted to be supportive. I was faced with the harsh reality that in 2021 there were four of us sisters and by 2022 I had one sister left. This reality is a sad and lonely one, but I realize, life is meant to be lived. With that said, I made the decision to turn my pain to purpose. As I write through loss, I admonish you to figure out what works best for you, writing through loss or taking a hiatus and then coming back. That choice is solely yours.
